The first 2 classes will introduce you to basic anatomy and physiology including the function of and interaction of the organs and systems of the body. This will give a better understanding of how herbs and supplements affect the body allowing the body to balance itself back out during disorders.
For example how weak adrenal glands can lead to disorders such as allergies/asthma, hypoglycemia, hormone imbalances, etc.You will also learn basic herbal chemistry leading to a better understanding of extraction, stability, potentiation, anatagonistic actions, conversion to salts, etc.
We will also cover and learn about what herbs work, which ones are hype, and how to properly design formulas to prevent problems such as creating a toxicity in a formulation, and preventing antagonistic effects by "binding" herbal constituents.
You will also learn to make the most of formulas by learning how to use potentiation, and increasing cell wall permeability to increase effectiveness. Explanations will also be given as to the differences and effectiveness and stability of whole herbs versus liquids and standardized extracts.
And common extraction methods and what solvents and techniques are most effective depending on the herb's chemistry.
The potential hazards of commonly used herbs such as goldenseal and blue-green algae derived from Klamath Lake.
These classes are a must for anyone interested in the health and wellness of your body and how herbs may be an alternative and desirable way to maintain your optimal well being.
